Emily Tumia,
Teaching Artist
Who:
I am first and foremost a professional fine artist, art teacher second. I have experimented in a wide breadth of art-making skills and have presented in several shows, exhibitions, conferences and schools.. I enjoy listening to true crime podcasts, reading gothic horror, learning about eclectic and esoteric topics, and listening to the calming purrs of my cat.
Goal:
I aim to make my artistic and teaching mastery an open resource for everyone. I believe that education should be free and accessible. My passion is to share my expertise it with the generations who will eventually lead the world.
Education
I am a professionally licensed educator on the Utah State Board of Education. I earned an Associate of Art degree from Snow College, and a Bachelor of Fine Art in Art Education from Utah State University. I now teach visual art at a junior high public school (11yo-15yo).
Teaching Experience
I am qualified to teach fine art K-12. I have taught in 4 elementary schools, 3 junior high schools and 2 high schools. I graduated in spring of 2020 and now teach full time as the visual fine arts teacher in a public junior high. While my first year teaching was during the height of the pandemic, I would not have changed it as I have learned how to teach art virtually and in person.
Professional Art Experience
I have always known I would make a career in art when I was young, but I did not find my passion for teaching until I finished my AA at Snow College. Through the years I have shown in 4 galleries, participated in a local chalk festival since I was 15, contributed to 2 major community service projects, made commissions for clients and sold in 2 art fares. Drawing was my first love, but I have since expanded my expertise into painting, sculpting, ceramics, printmaking, wood working, fiber arts, book binding, and more.
